Italy · Veneto · Soave
In the hills surrounding Soave in Veneto, just a few kilometers east of Verona, lies Cantina Filippi – a family-run winery led by Filippo Filippi, who is today considered one of the most exciting producers in the region. The vineyards are located between 320 and 400 meters above sea level, making them some of the highest-altitude sites in the Soave appellation. The cooler microclimate and volcanic soils give the wines a distinctive freshness, minerality, and tension that set them apart from more traditional and fuller-bodied styles of Soave.
Filippo Filippi took over the family vineyards with a desire to work in a more natural and terroir-driven way. The focus is on local grape varieties such as Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave, which are farmed organically with deep respect for biodiversity and the natural balance of the soil. Vineyard work is carried out with minimal intervention, and all harvesting is done by hand to ensure precision and quality in the fruit.
In the cellar, Filippi follows the same philosophy. The wines ferment spontaneously with native yeasts, sulfur use is kept to a minimum, and oak is deliberately avoided in order to preserve the purity of the grapes and the expression of Soave’s volcanic terroir. The result is vibrant and precise wines with saline minerality, fresh acidity, and a clear sense of place.
