This wine comes from an east-facing parcel in Ried Hummergraben, planted as Gemischter Satz — an old Austrian tradition in which multiple grape varieties grow side by side and are harvested and vinified together. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed, spontaneously fermented, and aged for 11 months on the lees in old oak barrels, followed by 9 months of bottle ageing. A true expression of terroir, limited to just 1,000 bottles.

Clemens Krutzler

Austria · Burgenland · Deutsch-Schützen

In the southern part of Burgenland, near the Eisenberg and Deutsch-Schützen wine regions, we find Clemens Krutzler – fifth generation at the renowned Krutzler family winery, known for its pure, resilient, and terroir-driven approach. Since 2020, Clemens has taken his own steps into winemaking, with a focus on natural wine and organic practices, inspired by family tradition and new ideas around low intervention and precision.

The family cultivates around 12 hectares of vineyards on the iron-rich soils of Eisenberg, where Clemens experiments with local grape varieties such as Blaufränkisch and Welschriesling. He has renewed his approach through maceration, spontaneous fermentation, aging on the lees, and the use of old oak barrels – all with minimal sulfur additions and no fining.

One of his recurring projects is the CK Rosé 2023, made from Blaufränkisch. The result is a deep and structured rosé with cool fruit, sharp acidity, and minerality from the iron-rich clay soils – a clear example of a serious and characterful natural wine. His CK Blaufränkisch 2022 offers freshness, red and tart berry fruit, fine tannins, and a mineral finish – elegant and vibrant, with clear terroir expression. In addition, he produces exciting blends like CK Mash-Up 2023, where Blaufränkisch and Welschriesling are co-fermented to create a balanced hybrid between red and white styles.

Clemens’ approach is rooted in biodynamic winegrowing and organic principles, with the clear intention to let the grape and soil speak for themselves – light, lively, and refreshingly elegant. Regarded as one of the most promising young winemakers in Burgenland, he combines heritage with courage and curiosity, elevating the wines to a level where quality and personal expression go hand in hand.
