In Chanos-Curson in the northern Rhône Valley, you will find Domaine des Entrefaux, a family-run winery where winemaking and farming have been passed down through five generations. Domaine des Entrefaux was founded in 1979 by Charles Tardy, who left the local cooperative to begin making the family's wine under their own name. In the 1990s, his son François Tardy joined him, later followed by his wife Anne, and now another generational transition is on the horizon.
The daughters Gaëlle and Louise Tardy have indeed entered the family business and are in the process of carrying Domaine des Entrefaux forward as the next generation. This makes the estate a true family story, where the work and experience of Charles, François, and Anne are gradually passed on to Gaëlle and Louise, while also giving them the opportunity to put their own stamp on the future.
Today, Domaine des Entrefaux consists of around 27 hectares of vineyards spread across Chanos-Curson, Mercurol, and Beaumont-Monteux. This provides a varied composition of stony soils, alpine deposits, clay, and limestone. Syrah plays the leading role in the red Crozes-Hermitage, while Marsanne and Roussanne form the basis for the white wines. The family also grows grain on part of the property to create greater biodiversity around the vineyards.
The vineyards have been certified organic since 2013, and the family supplements organic farming with methods inspired by biodynamics. The same philosophy continues in the cellar, where the wines are made as naturally as possible, using spontaneous fermentation and limited sulfur among other methods.
Domaine des Entrefaux is therefore both a classic Crozes-Hermitage and a family story in motion. With Gaëlle and Louise entering the management, the next generation continues the work with organic farming, Syrah, and the various terroirs in the northern Rhône Valley.
